Kids Myles Garrett Jersey The Mets added some instant pop to their lineup Monday, reportedly reaching a deal with free-agent third baseman Todd Frazier.

Frazier, who turns 32 on Feb. 12, had hinted on Twitter Sunday the Mets were his likely destination. Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic reports that Frazier and the Mets have agreed to a two-year, $17 million contract.

There’s no doubt that I’m disappointed, Beltran said of the relief response after Irma and Maria leveled the island last year. I’m not the only one. There’s a lot of people disappointed. We haven’t (gotten) some benefits. Being part of the United States, you expect to at least get the same benefits when tragedies like this happen. The fact that we haven’t (gotten) those, yeah, it’s a disappointment.

Beltran said Tuesday that 40 percent of Puerto Ricans remain without power some four months after the hurricanes hit.

I mean, I’m retired, he added. I feel like I don’t belong to any team. I just feel like I belong to the only team 鈥?and that’s my family. That’s the team that I belong (to) right now. I wish those (Astros players) the best over there. I hope they have a great time, enjoy their day, with what it comes to visit the White House.

Frazier struggled at the plate last season, slashing .213/.344/.428 in 474 at-bats between the White Sox and the Yankees. But the two-time All-Star has proven power. He hit 40 home runs in 2016, and 175 homers in six full MLB seasons.

The addition of Frazier fills the void at third base the Mets have had the past three seasons with seven-time All-Star David Wright hampered by injuries. Wright, who missed the entire 2017 Johnny Boychuk Youth jersey season with a variety of ailments, told MLB.com in January he’s not ready to retire yet. He underwent rotator cuff surgery last September.

Mets manager Mickey Callaway has some different options to explore on the left side of the infield, but the most likely scenario will see Asdrubal Cabrera moving from third to second base, with 22-year-old Amed Rosario getting the full-time job at short. Jose Reyes would be the utility infielder.

Dez and Dallas might appear to be headed for a breakup, but they need each other more than they will admit.

Given Sherman has a pretty smart and flexible agent 鈥?himself 鈥?he will make sure he stays in Seattle. With its secondary in flux, the team will keep its constant into his age-30 season. The question is whether Sherman gets an adjusted deal to keep him from becoming a free agent as scheduled in 2019.

Quarterbacks who have had just one big year are always of major concern to GMs. The latest free-agent horror story was Houston’s disastrous signing of Brock Osweiler two years ago following his one strong season with Denver.

Keenum is a lot better than Osweiler, and the former looks like a top-15 quarterback. The problem for Keenum: With a better supporting cast in Minnesota than he had in Washington, Cousins should be a top-10 QB; perhaps top five.

Vikings coach Mike Zimmer at last week’s Combine expressed the Keenum concerns when he said, Is Case the guy that he was at Houston or the Rams, or is he the guy who played for us? Is it because he had a good team around him?

Keenum is likely to be the most in demand. If the Vikings can’t or choose not to sign Cousins, Keenum, the most durable of their 2017 QBs, is sure to be their choice.

This could be the case if another team (Jets?) steps up with an offer for Cousins too rich for Minnesota to Womens Brandon McManus Jersey match; the offer also could come close enough that Cousins chooses the Vikings as the better team. Keep in mind Minnesota has several key players due for contract extensions soon, including three stars on the league’s top defense in Pro Bowl linebacker Anthony Barr, middle linebacker Eric Kendricks and strong pass rusher Danielle Hunter, plus Minneapolis Miracle star Stefon Diggs.

Cousins says he wants to play for a winning team, which puts Vikings GM Rick Spielman ahead of other suitors. But sometimes the money is just too good for a player to pass up, and the guarantees will be key.

Your favorite spring training clichés, translated and explained

Baseball tends to lend itself to more clichés than a direct-to-DVD movie, and with good reason. It starts here, in spring training.

Of course, the modern athlete is more in-tune than ever with understanding the ramifications of his or her words, meaning almost every soundbite will include at least one cliché.

Translation: “You need to calm the hell down. It’s spring training.”

It’s pretty awesome when you can hit home runs like Eric Thames, but also get on base enough and be fast enough to steal bases like Jose Altuve. Altuve was just six homers away from going 30-30 this past season, so in short, it’s awesome to be Jose Altuve.

So, can Ramirez do it? Let’s look at some historic precedent. Ramirez is going to be playing his Age 34 season this year. Nobody older than 32 has gone 30-30, which makes sense given that speed is one of the first tools to erode with age. Not even Barry Bonds, who stole quite a few bags before he became the size of a small mountain, was able to go 30-30 after his 33rd birthday. Ramirez was 24 when he had his 30-30 campaign in 2008. He last stole 20 bases in 2012, and hasn’t been in double-digits since before signing with the Red Sox. You can see where this is going.

Sources: Nationals first-round pick Seth Romero was sent home from spring training this morning. A club spokesman said Romero violated club policy. Unclear as to how long he will be gone or the specific policy violated.

The Nationals looked past those issues to make him the 25th pick in last year’s MLB Draft, projecting that he could be ready for the majors as early as this season, though he finished 2017 at short-season Single-A. He is considered among the top handful of prospects on a team that has been lacking in left-handed pitching.

According to the Post, how long Romero will be exiled isn’t clear, but as of now he isn’t taking part in spring training.

Finally, DRS uses run expectancy to determine how many runs a saved base at a position is worth: for a shortstop, this factor is around .76. To convert from bases saved to runs saved or bases allowed to runs allowed, multiply bases saved or bases allowed by that factor. In this example, Simmons is responsible for .9375 times .76 or .71 runs saved if he makes the play, or -.50 times .76 or -.38 runs if he can’t make the play, and allows the runner advance to second.

Watch: Nets coach Kenny Atkinson restrained from confronting referee

That major NBA initiative announced Friday aiming to ease tensions between players and referees had better work on smoothing over some issues with coaches, too.

Nets’ coach Kenny Atkinson had to be restrained by Nets players and assistant coaches in the fourth quarter of the team’s 111-97 loss to Timberwolves Saturday night.

But since Dec. 20, 2014, San Jose has been blanked twice and outscored 16-3 in its home regular-season matchups. St. Louis, though, begins the California portion of a crucial road trip looking to avoid their ninth loss in 10 games.

That slump has dropped the Blues into 11th in the Western Conference. Meanwhile, San Jose (35-22-9) is third in the Pacific Division, one point behind the Anaheim Ducks with a game in hand.

After winning the first two contests of a six-game stretch at home, the Sharks dropped a 4-2 decision to the Columbus Blue Jackets on Sunday as Evander Kane collected his first goal in a Sharks uniform and added an assist.

An attorney for the NBA, Dan Spillane, testified before a New York State Senate committee and said the league wants to give fans more widespread access to gambling, which would increase the amount wagered and, with a percentage of the money wagered going to the league, ultimately lead to more revenue for the NBA.

“We have studied these issues at length,” Spillane said in his statement to lawmakers. “Our conclusion is that the time has come for a different approach that gives sports fans a safe and legal way to wager on sporting events while protecting the integrity of the underlying competitions.”

What exactly does the NBA want in order to become a partner in legalizing what has amounted to a multibillion-dollar industry?

The league wants 1 percent of every bet made on its games, and if others follow suit, it could create big revenue for all sports leagues in the future.

The league also wants the wagering to be monitored in real time to detect any insider trading or alarming activity. They are also requesting including age restrictions to protect consumers in addition to a “rigorous licensing program” for operators.

Pelicans sign Emeka Okafor to 10-day contract

The Pelicans have signed Emeka Okafor to a 10-day contract, the team announced Saturday.

New Orleans continues to fill out its roster in the wake of DeMarcus Cousins’ season-ending Achilles injury suffered in the Pelicans’ matchup with the Rockets Jan. 27.

Porter certainly flashes potential as a self creator, especially as a fluid ball-handler in big spaces where his athleticism and coordination shine. It translates less in the halfcourt, though.

But give credit to Markkanen — he has shut down the naysayers with a fantastic rookie season. He is averaging 14.9 points, 7.6 rebounds and 1.2 assists per game while shooting 34.7 percent from beyond the arc and becoming the fastest player in NBA history to reach 100 made 3-pointers. He is second among all rookies with 13 double doubles (Simmons is blowing everyone away with 23).

In any other year, Markkanen may be the frontrunner in the Rookie of the Year race. It just so happens that he has to compete with Simmons and Mitchell.

They already have Ivan Provorov and Gostisbehere at the NHL level, with Sanheim, Samuel Morin and Hagg the system. He’s a smart player that picked our system up a hurry and made some big plays for us.I know he’s very involved the Brother’s Keeper’ program and I know that that’s going to be a big thing for him his post-presidency and I wouldn’t be surprised to a lot of players involved that.It was sort of like, Woah, I just started playing safety.

“I was pleased with putting up zeroes but also to be able to throw my pitches and keep guys guessing,” the 28-year-old right-hander said. “I didn’t go late into the game because we’re only going three innings, but I finished the outing strong and came out with zeroes.”

He wound up 5-7 with a 6.70 ERA last year, when he was sidelined from mid-June until September because of a stress fracture in his scapula, which connects the arm with the collarbone.

Harvey, who is eligible for free agency after this season, threw in the mid-90 mph range against the Tigers. Not quite the level he reached in his youth, but enough to be effective.

“I think the third inning I felt better than the first two innings,” he said. “Usually it’s the other way around. That’s a good sign. I was able to get in trouble and get out of it.”

Harvey had one strikeout and one walk in a 46-pitch outing.

“He pitched with not his best stuff today,” new Mets manager Mickey Callaway said. “Throughout the season you’re going to have a handful of those. If you can get through those, that’s huge. He did a good job of throwing strike one and maybe fell behind after that, but he knew he had good stuff, made a pitch and got out of it. He can be very good for us.”

Andrew Wiggins scored 27 points and Jeff Teague added 25 before getting ejected for a flagrant foul on Ricky Rubio in the Timberwolves’ second straight loss.

Karl-Anthony Towns finished with just 13 points after picking up two technical fouls and getting ejected before halftime. Without him in the middle, the Timberwolves had no answer for Gobert.

“The rebounding, I thought, was a problem the whole game,” Thibodeau said. “It was a big concern going into the game. But I thought our guys kept fighting. Obviously when you lose (Towns), you’re losing your best rebounder. But they kept battling. I thought we had a shot down the stretch and then we had some tough breaks.”

The Wizards helped create an early deficit with five turnovers that led to 11 points for the Warriors, including a Curry-to-Durant alley-oop dunk that put Golden State up 32-21. Washington finished with 18 turnovers, which translated to 26 points. “Unfortunately for us,” Brooks said, “that’s been sneaking up on us.”

So were the Sixers, once Ilyasova delivered a flawless fourth (4 for 4 from the floor, sank both free throws) that compensated for Embiid’s scoreless quarter. Embiid had been otherwise dominant in a lopsided matchup against Dwight Howard.

The Sixers won their 13th straight game at the Wells Fargo Center.

“I think, for me, I need that energy,” Embiid said. “We’ve got to put on a show. It’s great, especially if we make the playoffs, it’ll be louder than usual.”

The Sixers were coming off an impressive 108-97 win over the Cleveland Cavaliers on Thursday night that ended an 11-game losing streak against the Eastern Conference champions. Coach Brett Brown said playing the second of a back-to-back at home against a Hornets team badly in need of victories would be a nice test.

The Suns shot 56 percent and the Thunder 49 percent in an up-and-down first half that ended with Phoenix up 67-60.

Booker had 21 points, eight assists and four rebounds in the half. Westbrook countered with 19 points, seven rebounds and four assists. Jackson had 15 points in 10 minutes off the bench.

But the Suns wore down in the second half.

Kevin Hart posts video chronicling descent into extreme drunkenness at Super Bowl

Kevin Hart had fun at the Super Bowl. Maybe a little too much fun, but who are we to judge? The comedian and Philadelphia native tried to storm the stage post-game after having too many drinks, and now he’s shared a video on Instagram of how he reached that point.

Hart is about to embark on his aptly-named Irresponsible tour, so getting hammered at the Super Bowl and needing to be stopped by security seems like a rather appropriate way to kick it all off.

It’s unlikely that protesting will be widespread inside U.S. Bank Stadium, the game venue. But the activism encouraged by quarterback Colin Kaepernick has been on display outside the Super Bowl all week.

Steele: The four-game league suspension imposed in June 2016, for violating the NFL’s substance-abuse policy, was completed in October 2016, and he was reinstated. In November 2017, authorities in Dallas announced that a 2016 domestic violence misdemeanor involving his former girlfriend, Colleen Crowley, had been dismissed.

McDaniels’ first stint as a head coach came with the Denver Broncos from 2009 through 2010. He jumped out to a 6-0 start in his first season, but then lost 12 of his next 17 games, and the Broncos moved on from him. During that brief span, McDaniels managed to alienate Jay Cutler, drew a $50,000 fine for the team for illegally videotaping a 49ers’ walkthrough, and used a first-round draft pick on Tim Tebow.

Chris Blystone at Stampede Blue, SB Nation’s Colts blog, writes it’s not all on McDaniels’ shoulders.

This was a major mistake by the Broncos. No first-time head coach should have that kind of power in an organization until they prove they can do the primary job they are hired to do. Coaches and general managers both fill different roles and allowing one person control over all aspects removes needed perspective for any coach, especially a young one. Add to that the fact that GM Brian Xanders was a rookie in his position as well, and you have a recipe for issues.

Marshon Lattimore wins 2017 NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year, completing a Saints sweep

Marshon Lattimore was the first cornerback taken off the board in the 2017 NFL draft, and rightfully so. The New Orleans Saints needed a stud defensive back who could bolster their defensive backfield, and the Ohio State product didn’t disappoint in his rookie season.

Lattimore only surrendered a 45.3 passer rating — the third-best rating in the NFL. And none of the receivers who lined up on his side scored touchdowns. Lattimore also made his presence felt in the run game by chipping in with 52 tackles.

He received a Pro Bowl nod for his fantastic rookie season and could transform into one of the best cornerbacks in the NFL for years to come.

Timberlake, 36, is one of the more accomplished singers in American history. In the early stages of his singing career, he was the lead singer in *NSYNC. But he skyrocketed to the top of the music industry after he decided to go solo. Timberlake is a 10-time Grammy Award-winner and a four-time Emmy Award-winner. He has tons of hits, like “Cry me a River”, “Can’t Stop the Feeling!”, and “Rock Your Body.”

It might be a little surprising Timberlake is back at the Super Bowl at all. During the Super Bowl XXXVIII halftime show, he performed “Rock Your Body” with Jackson. While singing the final line of the song, “Bet I’ll have you naked by the end of this song”, Timberlake ripped off a part of Jackson’s outfit, which exposed her nipple.

But that took place years ago, and the NFL has clearly moved on from it. Now, Timberlake can focus on entertaining football fans. His fifth album, Man of the Woods, will be released Feb. 2. He may perform some of those songs during his halftime performance, but you’ll have to watch it to find out.

Undoubtedly there will be at least one special guest on the stage with him, but like with many Super Bowl halftime shows, this one is being kept under wraps until the Big Game to make it as big of a surprise as possible.

Dickerson missed all of last season, undergoing back surgery in June after rehab was ineffective.

Margot, a prized piece of the deal that sent Craig Kimbrel to Boston in November 2015, slashed .267/.323/.426 with 13 homers and 13 stolen bases primarily from the leadoff spot last year.

My expectation is that he competes to win a Gold Glove in center field … and anchors the outfield and continues to go about his work with a 100-runs-scored mentality, Green said.

He had 10 homers in 84 games as a rookie in 2016.

But that hadn’t really manifested itself in the league until recent years. In 2015 when the game first started, there were 101 internationally born players from 37 different countries on opening day rosters around the NBA. In the 2000-01 season, that number was only 45.

And, at that time, there was so much international talent being picked prominently around the league. Andrew Wiggins, Joel Embiid, and Dante Exum were three of the top five picks in the 2014 draft as international players. It made sense to format the game that way.

The league’s talent pool has expanded and we’ve seen the game benefit from that in recent years. We’ve gotten introductions to lots of international talent and the league has put that talent on the biggest stage.

Assistant football coach and security monitor Aaron Feis, cross country coach Scott Beigel and athletic director Chris Hixon were among those killed in a shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School on Wednesday.

To be very clear, I did not say the word ‘gun’ one time. Anyone out there who wrote I’m calling for gun control is very irresponsible. I did not say that once. I don’t know enough about it. I don’t know what needs to be done, but some type of change needs to happen for the better.

Rizzo, 28, is a graduate of Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School, where Nikolas Cruz is accused of fatally shooting 17 people last Wednesday. Rizzo’s ties to the community run deep, and he knew some of those who were killed, including a football coach and the niece of his agent.

He’s a true hero, Rizzo said of assistant football coach Aaron Feis. He has this monster coming in, shooting up the school, and he jumps in front of kids and saves their lives.

Which teams could blow past their poor preseason projections?

I’m going to talk about three teams I think could be major surprises — in a good way, relative to the projections. Before I get there, I’d like to provide some prior examples. I have a sheet of preseason team projections stretching all the way back to 2005. Over 13 years, several teams, of course, have been projected to be below average or worse. Many of those teams were below average. But some were very successful. Among my favorites:

Mourinho has been accused in the past of playing his men outside of their true position, but the glaring mismanagement of Pogba’s role is unacceptable. In the last two weeks, six points that should have been awarded to United now sit comfortably on their opponent’s tally.

When Mourinho places Pogba in a midfield three role, he is unstoppable. Not only is the Frenchman free to move about the pitch without a sense of urgency both directions, his form is unparalleled. Much of the hesitation from adopting that lineup must derive from the lack of a holding midfielder on the roster, which would completely relieve Pogba the burden of constantly reverting to a defensive post. While the signing of Alexis Sánchez was world class, as my fellow Busby Babe contributor Garrett Burgon argued, United’s January transfer demands should have really included a midfielder.

Souza came to the Diamondbacks on Tuesday in a three-team trade that sent infielder Brandon Drury from Arizona to the New York Yankees and left-hander Anthony Banda, a top Arizona pitching prospect, to Tampa Bay.

Every player’s goal is to ultimately win a world championship, Hosmer said. To be able do that in Kansas City was amazing. To have that taste and understand what it means to a city and how much joy and excitement it brings to the people out there, it’s an experience I can sit here and talk about all day. It’s something that drives you as a player — to try to bring back as many as you can.

You see how San Diego as a city is begging for a sports team to go in there and bring some excitement and some energy. I saw the direction the organization was going, and I saw the people at the top of the mountain who were leading the organization, and I bought into what they’re trying to do here.

Hosmer wore No. 35 in Kansas City, but the Padres retired that jersey number in 1997 in honor of pitcher Randy Jones. He will wear No. 30 in San Diego as a tribute to his former Royals teammate Yordano Ventura, who died in a car crash in the Dominican Republic last year. Third-base coach Glenn Hoffman agreed to relinquish the number so Hosmer could have it.royals_035
